Western’s Late Four Goal Run Seals Victory Over Toronto

Western opened its CUFLA season with a 13–5 victory over Toronto under the lights at Varsity Stadium. The Mustangs applied pressure early, but Toronto goaltender Benjamin Rishikof made several key saves to keep the game scoreless. Western eventually broke through and built a 5–0 advantage before the Varsity Blues began to respond.

Toronto gained momentum late in the third quarter. Daniel Clarke scored with just 10 seconds remaining, followed by a buzzer-beating goal from Johnathan Murawsky that gave the Blues some life heading into the final frame.

The teams traded goals during the fourth quarter, but Western regained control with a late four goal run that put the game away. Hayden McIsaac led the Mustangs with a hat trick, while Zach Abu-Ali, Blake Booth and Cyrus Sinopole each scored twice.

Ethan Bahniuck paced Toronto with two goals. Clarke, Murawsky and Alexander May also found the back of the net for the Varsity Blues.

The victory moved Western to 1–0, while Toronto fell to 0–1.
