Baggataway Cup Fun Facts & Historical Notes:
The Brock Badgers hold the all-time record with 20 Baggataway Cup championships, the most in CUFLA history.
The Western Mustangs rank second all-time with 9 championships, including 5 titles in 8 seasons between 2016 and 2024.
The Brock Badgers have made the most championship game appearances, reaching an incredible 27 Baggataway Cup finals between 1986 and 2022.
From 1996 to 2007, Brock captured 11 championships in 12 seasons, one of the most dominant dynasties in Canadian university sports.
The Guelph Gryphons have claimed 6 national titles, including championships in both 2000 and 2025.
The original Baggataway Cup got its origins in Guelph, in a house on Inkerman street in 1993. It was sponsored by Labatt. Labatt paid for the Baggataway Cup trophy. When the original trophy was (unfortunately) destroyed and replaced, the Labatt part disappeared.
Western owns the longest recent championship streak, winning four consecutive titles from 2016 to 2019.
One of the most dramatic championship games in tournament history came in 2002, when Brock defeated the Bishop's Gaiters 9–8 in triple overtime.
The 2017 and 2018 Baggataway Cup finals both required double overtime, with Western defeating Brock in back-to-back instant classics.
The McGill Redmen captured championships in both 2012 and 2015 before later rebranding as the McGill Redbirds.
The 2020 Baggataway Cup was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, marking the only season since 1985 without a champion.
The Trent Excalibur earned their first-ever Baggataway Cup title in 2022, defeating Brock 12–3 in the championship game.
Since 1985, only seven programs have won the Baggataway Cup: Brock, Western, Guelph, McMaster, McGill, Bishop’s, and Trent.
