Superb Goaltending Sees Gryphons Outlast Lakers In Finals Rematch

In a rematch of last year's final, the Nipissing Lakers hosted the Guelph Gryphons Friday evening at Nipissing Field.
Guelph established control early on its way to victory over the Lakers. Robert Baxter opened the scoring 2:28 into the first quarter before Sam Savery doubled the lead at 4:21. Matthew Fox scored what proved to be the game-winner 5:18 into the second, giving the Gryphons a 3–0 advantage. Zach Tarr answered for Nipissing at 7:09, but Guelph quickly regained control through Carter Mackay at 8:12 and John Logue at 12:24, sending the Gryphons into halftime with a commanding 5–1 lead.
There was much more of a defensive stuggle after the break. Mackay scored his second of the game 10:25 into the third quarter and Baxter added his second at 8:38 of the fourth before Jacob Tarr closed out the scoring for Nipissing at 10:02. Baxter and Mackay led the Gryphons with two goals apiece, while Savery, Fox and Logue also found the back of the net. Guelph outshot Nipissing 30–20 in the game.
