Happening at this year's Baggataway Cup is the second annual CUFLA Rookie All Star game. A collection of players will be selected by league executives, in collaboration with the coaching staffs, to compete in an East vs West showcase game of the league's top first year players. This game is a great opportunity for scouts from the professional leagues and Lacrosse Canada to see firsthand, Canada's top university freshman players.
This prime time (8:30pm) showcase game, under the lights, will be streamed on YouTube
Players selected to participate in the 2025 Rookie All Star Game will receive an invitation from the league Commissioners after Super Qualifier Weekend. All players participating in the Rookie All Star Game will receive a custom jersey, which is theirs to keep. Last year's Rookie game attracted a near capacity crowd, with each team remaining at the fields to cheer on their rookie players. Tickets to this event are first come, first served. Admittance is not guaranteed. Arrive early.
At the 2024 Baggataway Cup, the Rookie All Star Game became an instant classic. The stands at Kiwanis Field in St Catharines were nearly full. An additional 11,000+ were watching the broadcast.
The Rookie Allstar Game is presented by Lacrosse Canada.
Quote: At the CUFLA annual general meeting, the league confirmed it was open to proposals from neutral-site locations that are not on university campuses. Commissioner Fox said, "We are open to a lot of different locations, but there are some minimum requirements for a venue to host the Cup going forward. We have some exciting plans for our 40th anniversary season that will include showcase games, and another primetime Rookie All Star Game. We need a location that can accommodate the extra production that will be required and hold the number of fans and alumni that we anticipate will be attending." Fox added "We are going to make a big deal out of the 40th anniversary season. Hundreds of alumni have worn a CUFLA uniform over the years. They are all welcome at Baggataway weekend as our guest and we would love the opportunity to honour them throughout the weekend".
